Differences between fluorescent and LED


The principles of light emitting are different. LED lights use light-emitting diodes to emit light, while fluorescent lamps use a large number of electrons emitted when the filament is heated to emit visible light. The brightness is different. LED lights are brighter, about 2 to 3 times that of fluorescent lamps. The service life of LEDs is different. The service life of the lamp is much longer than that of fluorescent lamps. The specific contents are as follows:

1. Different luminescence principles

LED lights are composed of small light-emitting diodes. As long as the light-emitting diodes supply the rated working voltage, they will emit light. LED is a solid-state semiconductor device that can convert electrical energy into visible light, that is, a light-emitting diode, which can directly convert electricity into light.

Fluorescent lamps use a large number of electrons emitted when the filament is heated. Under the action of high voltage at both ends of the lamp, they move from the low potential end to the high potential end at a very high speed. During the acceleration movement, the argon molecules in the collision tube are rapidly ionized. The ionization of argon generates heat, and the heat causes the mercury to generate vapor, and then the mercury vapor is also ionized, and emits strong ultraviolet rays. Under the excitation of ultraviolet rays, the solar powder in the tube wall emits almost white visible light.

2. Different brightness

There is also a certain difference in the brightness of fluorescent lamps and LED lamps. LED lighting has high efficiency and high brightness. The lighting effect of excellent quality LEDs currently on the market can reach more than 130lm/w, which is about 2 to 3 times that of fluorescent lamps. That is to say, the brightness of an 18W LED lamp is compared to that of a 36W to 48W fluorescent lamp.

3. The service life is different

The service life of LED lights is much longer than that of fluorescent lights. LED lamps usually have a lifespan of more than 50,000 hours, while fluorescent lamps usually only have a lifespan of about 10,000 to 20,000 hours.
